this is now a MAJOR section

As the ongoing contractual bizniz continues, we decided it's about time we gave you access to another piece of exclusive, brand new music. As some of you might be aware, CENTISTA was the first piece of music Lunatic Calm ever commited to vinyl back in 1996 > although it only ever appeared as a promo, I've been busy in the Luna Module working on a brand new remix of it under my elite force alter ego [see below for further info] and it's a full pHat pounding rhino of a mix. It's also all yours for nothing providing you're a member of the lunatic calm mailing list, which if you're not, you can be by entering your e-mail address below and clicking the button.

The mp3 file is available to members of the list (as of 19th june 2000), for one month only [it will be removed on 19-july-00] and if you're a newcomer and still haven't downloaded the mp3 of new track basement level, you'll automatically be sent a download location of that on joining......

We wanted to once again say thanks to all the people who entered beatflow.com's Basement Level remix contest. The winning mix came from Voxis, who descibe what they do as: "Utilizing the genres of electronica, trance, industrial, goth, trip-hop and ambient/ethereal, the trio known as VOXiS strives to evoke a mood of a dark dystopic/cyber reality. With soundscapes that question and textures that feel (along with stabbing guitars, lush strings and razor-edged synths) they are in the process of creating soundtracks for the movies which exist only in the minds of it's members." Their mix was a focused, thumping clubwise take on the original track and should see the light of day on vinyl later this year. [We would like to re-iterate to all entrants that this competition was organised and managed by beatflow and not ourselves and they should be contacted if there are any further / future enquiries]

I've now launched another major internet site, on behalf of ongoing solo alter-ego, Elite Force. Whilst Lunatic Calm are relatively inactive, Elite Force had a major release on 12th June 2000 when the Bombin' the Subway EP was made available on 12" and mp3 on the Fused & Bruised label. There is now streaming mp3 audio on the elite force site, along with downloadable previews and options to buy and own the mp3s through the sonic storeroom, along with all the usual shenanigans...... Check out the site.

A full interview with sHack appeared recently on the
icrunch website, along with the single edit of Basment Level. It is estimated that over 50,000 people have downloaded the track since its' launch back in January 2000, and the interview was part of the ongoing campaign to promote and use the digital domain as a frontline means of diseminating our work.

As many of you will no doubt be aware, we kicked off the year with the MP3-only release of Basement Level (single edit), on 17th January. It's been an interesting project to undertake bearing in mind all the recent media hype surrounding MP3s & the like, but for anyone who's been using the internet for years, stories of the demise of the record industry are just scare-mongering nonsense. Sure, it may have to re-invent itself in a way it had failed to anticipate if it's to avoid being cut out of the loop as far as being the arbiter of taste, but the dust will settle in time and it's refreshing to see artists suddenly gaining what is perceived to be the upper hand. We now have 900 members of the Lunatic Calm Mailing List, most of whom have downloaded the Basement Level MP3 (thanks for all your responses) & with around 25,000 pages being read per month, our site is the most fundamental tool available to us for sharing what we do and know. Thanks for continuing to make it work.

Basement Level was Rioport.com's track of the day on the 19th January as well as being one of their featured picks for the week, and SonicNet also had it as their pick of the day several days later. More recently, the track was carried by Launch.com and continues to generate stacks of e-mail from around the world. Basement Level was also made available at Kikwear.com, the finest purveyors of urban streetwear around - look out for their Double Needle label coming soon with tracks from ELITE FORCE & more.....and if you see sHack on a 30ft billboard in downtown LA right now, you know who to blame.

If you haven't yet downloaded Basement Level, please click here for download instructions.

Whilst we don't, as yet, have any confirmed dates as to when we'll finally be back out on the road again....you'll be first to hear
right here about any dates, DJ or otherwise.

As anyone who's visited this site over the past year will be aware, the turn of the century has ushered in another huge overhaul of the Lunatic Calm Digital Domain in keeping with our ongoing desire to keep things fresh. We've tried our damndest to redesign the whole thing for this upgrade, but in some instances you'll come across one or two areas that are still being redeveloped.....in these cases they are currently being put together and we guarantee they'll be running no later than 1st February.

Amongst the many changes are the additions of our digital diary, where we report back once a month in word+vision as to what's been happening in the studio, in the clubs, and in the live arena. Also brand new is the buyer's guide to LC, where we point you in the right direction to buy our back catalogue online - you'll find a price guide alongside each stockist to give you a surf-free insight into what's what. For samplists and musos, a further section has been added to the soundz division, LC soundsamples, where you can now get the components required to remix LEAVE YOU FAR BEHIND in your own time. The image division has also been revamped, and whilst we will continue to archive some on-the-road shots, it's really when we start touring again that this will come into its' own. Finally, a special mention should go to the links section, which has expanded way beyond what it is to become a truly indispensible collection of sites that should prove useful for anyone from music afficiandos, to music-producers.

The site also contains new navigational tools, including the onsite search engine at the bottom of each page - it works in the same way as any other search engine, except it's specific to this site. The quickfinder function to the left of each page should also make getting around a lot easier, and we would also strongly urge you to join the mailing list to receive free, exclusive MP3s, including digital dubplates of forthcoming material.

We have, over the past couple of years, had a number of our tracks used on within movies and on movie soundtracks, and presently there are several major films using adapted tracks & mixes from the Metropol album:

The Matrix, using "Leave You Far Behind" (Rollercoaster mix ) is a ripper http://www.whatisthematrix.com/. The mix is used within the movie for the main fight learning scene, and the soundtrack album on Maverick Records has now gone on to attain Platinum status in the US, with the DVD becoming the best-selling DVD of all-time.

Also out & now on video is the political thriller, Arlington Road, exploring the shadowy world of domestic terrorism, with Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins & Joan Cusack. The film has been scored by the wonderous Angelo Badalmenti (Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Wild At Heart etc...) who has incorporated "Neon Reprise" into the film's opening titles. The full score is available on the soundtrack album of the film.
